Have all the discoveries…in the world…already been found? Some people may think so but almost every month, news comes out about something that was found in the ocean or on an island in the Pacific. But what about right here in Iowa?
Join this session to learn about what Iowa was like during the Ice Age. Did you know we had mammoths here and two years ago a farmer in Iowa found bones on his property including a complete femur bone?
http://www.uiowa.edu/mnh/mammothdiscovery.htm
Join staff from the University of Iowa’s Museum of Natural History to learn what Iowa looked like 10, 000 years ago and how scientists (such as her) are able to deduce this information. She will talk about the giant sloth remains that were found in Iowa. Most exciting, she will share pictures and video of the mammoth site in Iowa that was discovered recently.
What do these bones tell us? Why is this find so important? She will share the story of how the bones were first found and the work the university is doing at the site this summer. (Our presenter is one of the people from the university involved in this dig so she will have lots to share with your students.)
Your students will be intrigued to learn about what Iowa was like thousands of years ago. Our presenter will also tell your students a little about her career and what she does in her job. So a little early career education! This session has limited space available so sign up today to secure your schools spot in this exciting ICN session.
