April 18, 2008
(Johnston, Iowa) – Monday’s episode of The Iowa Journal will examine the independent film King Corn. The program airs Monday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. It will be rebroadcast Friday, April 25 at 9:00 p.m. on statewide IPTV-Plus and will also be available online at Iptv.org.
Independent Lens: King Corn airs Sunday, April 20 at 10:30 p.m. In it three filmmakers moved to Iowa for a year to farm an acre of corn and followed it into the system. The film was shot in 2004 on a farm near Greene, Iowa. The grain market has changed dramatically since then. What those changes are and what relevance the documentary still has will be the focus of a discussion that will include Bill Northey, Iowa's secretary of agriculture, and Frederick L. Kirschenmann, distinguished fellow, Leopold Center.
