December Celebration on IPTV

November 24, 2009

(Johnston, Iowa) – Throughout the year, viewers enjoy unique and varied programming on Iowa Public Television. During the network’s special “December Celebration,” December 2 – 6, viewers will have the opportunity to see some of IPTV’s best musical and lifestyle programs, with the opportunity to pledge support for the programs they enjoy all year long. In addition to helping support a year’s worth of excellent programming, viewers will have the opportunity to receive special thank-you gifts with their pledges – including tickets to see Daniel O’Donnell in concert, tickets to a seminar with brain expert Dr. Daniel Amen, books, DVDs, CDs, and more.

Wednesday, December 2
6:30 p.m. – Big Band Years: Nick Clooney and Peter Marshall host a nostalgic look at hit-makers and songs of the 1930s and ‘40s.
8:30 p.m. – Great Performances: Andrea Bocelli and David Foster: My Christmas in Concert. Hit-maker David Foster and singer Andrea Bocelli perform holiday hits with a varied list of stars, including Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole, and the Muppets.
10:30 p.m. – Change Your Brain, Change Your Life. Dr. Daniel Amen teaches how to optimize mental performance and overcome self-defeating behaviors.

Thursday, December 3
6:30 p.m. – The National Parks: America’s Best Idea: The Morning of Creation. In this episode of this fall’s epic series, American families create unforgettable memories, passing on a love of parks to the next generation. Co-producer and Iowa native Dayton Duncan shares his memories of the parks, as well.
8 p.m. – Rock, Rhythm, and Doo Wop: Frankie Valli hosts performances by Little Richard, the Five Satins, and more rock-and-roll legends.
11:05 p.m. – Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame Live: Highlights of one-of-a-kind performances and induction speeches by the biggest names in rock-and-roll.

Friday, December 4
7:25 p.m. – Best of Iowa with Dan Kaercher: Editor and writer Dan Kaercher profiles his favorite Iowa spots to visit.
7:50 p.m. – Market to Market: IPTV’s weekly journal of rural America.
8:30 p.m. – Ed Sullivan’s Rock-and-Roll Classics: The ’60s: This special features classic performances from “The Ed Sullivan Show” during the 1960s, from the Beatles to the Doors and more.
10:30 p.m. – War of the Worlds Live: The stage version of Jeff Wayne’s album features a grand mix of live music, theatre, and visual arts.

Saturday, December 5
6:30 a.m. – Brain Fitness Frontiers: The impact of virtual reality in changing memories and dealing with pain is tested on cab drivers.
8 a.m. – Rick Steves’ European Christmas: Steves explores the rich history and traditions of the holiday in six European countries.
10 a.m. – Kid Concoctions II: John and Danita Thomas will be live at Iowa Public Television to present this viewer favorite, which features inexpensive crafts and projects families can do at home together.
Noon – Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring the Rockettes: Enjoy the Rockettes, the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, and the awe-inspiring Living Nativity.
1 p.m. – Brain in Love with Dr. Daniel Amen: Dr. Amen will be live at Iowa Public Television to present his special, which shows how the brain can help you bring and keep love in your life. Dr. Amen will also talk about an upcoming seminar, hosted at Iowa Public Television, and how Friends members can participate.
3 p.m. – Magnificent Mind at Any Age with Dr. Daniel Amen: Dr. Amen presents this program, which explores natural ways that we can keep our brains healthy as we age to enhance our brain power. Dr. Amen will also talk about an upcoming seminar, hosted at Iowa Public Television, and how Friends members can participate.
5 p.m. – Big Band Years: Nick Clooney and Peter Marshall host a nostalgic look at hit-makers and songs of the 1930s and ‘40s.
7 p.m. – The Lawrence Welk Show: Christmas Reunion: This special marks the last time Lawrence Welk appeared with his full orchestra. JoAnne Castle will be live at Iowa Public Television to discuss her memories of the series.
9 p.m. – Magic Moments: The Best of ‘50s Pop: The McGuire Sisters, The Lennon Sisters, The Chordettes, The Four Aces, and more take the stage.
11 p.m. – The Red Green Story: We’re All in This Together: This special is a retrospective celebration of the long-running public television hit.

Sunday, December 6
6:30 a.m. – Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas: George and the Man with the Yellow Hat have a great time preparing for Christmas.
8 a.m. – Kid Concoctions II: John and Danita Thomas will be live at Iowa Public Television to present this viewer favorite, which features inexpensive crafts and projects families can do at home together.
10 a.m. – Magnificent Mind at Any Age with Dr. Daniel Amen: Dr. Amen presents this program, which explores natural ways that we can keep our brains healthy as we age to enhance our brain power. Noon – Daniel O’Donnell Hope and Praise: This uplifting concert features hymns, gospel, and pop songs performed with an orchestra and choirs. Viewers will learn how to get tickets for a Daniel O’Donnell concert in Sioux City, Moline, or Omaha in June 2010.
2 p.m. – Magic Moments: The Best of ‘50s Pop: The McGuire Sisters, The Lennon Sisters, The Chordettes, The Four Aces, and more take the stage.
4 p.m. – Big Band Years: Nick Clooney and Peter Marshall host a nostalgic look at hit-makers and songs of the 1930s and ‘40s.
6 p.m. – College Wrestling: Iowa @ ISU LIVE: IPTV’s College Wrestling season kicks off with live coverage of this classic wrestling rivalry.
8 p.m. – Ed Sullivan’s Rock-and-Roll Classics: The ’60s: This special features classic performances from “The Ed Sullivan Show” during the 1960s, from the Beatles to the Doors and more.
