About Food Production April 21

National Documentary Followed by More on the Story: An “Iowa Journal” Special

(Johnston, Iowa)  -- On Wednesday, April 21, Iowa Public Television will present two programs about agriculture and food production. At 8 p.m., the network will broadcast the season premiere of the national documentary series POV, featuring the film Food, Inc. Immediately following this broadcast, viewers can see More on the Story: An “Iowa Journal” Special.

Food, Inc. examines the American agricultural system and the impacts of increased production and lower costs. This film, nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for Best Documentary, includes interviews with farmers, workers, and consumer advocates.

Following this documentary, IPTV will present a local special that draws upon the network’s extensive coverage of and expertise in the food business through the production of the nation’s longest-running agribusiness program, Market to Market. Guests for the Iowa Journal special are Craig Lang, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, and Neil Hamilton, director of the Agricultural Law Center at Drake University. Market to Market host Mark Pearson will moderate the discussion.
