Iowa Public Television Explores Iowa’s Marriage Battleground in Special Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m.

(Johnston, Iowa) -- On Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m., Iowa Public Television examines the issues surrounding the same-sex marriage issue in Iowa in a new special, Iowa’s Marriage Battlegound.
This program looks at the legalization of same-sex marriage in Iowa and how it’s fueled a debate about the future of Iowa’s constitution, the justices who serve on the highest court, and the definitions of marriage, family, and civil rights.
The program will include stories from the series In the Life, as well as interviews with local experts on both sides of the issue.
- Bob Vander Plaats is president and CEO of the Family Leader which encompasses the activities of the Iowa Family Policy Center and Marriage Matters.
- Tamara Scott is the state director for Concerned Women of America. Scott is also host of an internet show called "Truth for Our Times" and serves on the United States Commission on Civil Rights State Advisory Committee.
- Senator Matt McCoy (D), is serving his fifth term in the Iowa Senate, after serving two terms in the Iowa House. He represents Senate District 31, which includes the south, southwestern, and western portions of Des Moines. McCoy is also a board member for One Iowa, the state's largest LGBT advocacy organization.
- Connie Ryan Terrell is executive director of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa and a board member of One Iowa.
Iowa’s Marriage Battleground airs Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m. on statewide Iowa Public Television, and will be rebroadcast on Wednesday, June 22 at 7 p.m. on IPTV WORLD.
