Holiday Debt: On the Monday, December 10 edition of The Iowa Journal

December 7, 2007

(Johnston, Iowa) – Monday’s episode of The Iowa Journal will explore current debt trends and offer advice on holiday fiscal joy. The program airs Monday, December 10 at 6:30 p.m. It will be rebroadcast Friday, December 14 at 9 p.m. on statewide IPTV-Plus and will also be available online at Iptv.org.

For the first time since the great depression the American savings rate is non-existent. Many Iowans may enter the holiday season carrying heavy debt burdens. This episode will profile a Des Moines family that embraces the joys of simple living. Although Phil and Cindy Blobaum's thrifty financial practices are born of necessity, the holiday traditions they share with their four children fit their personal philosophy. The Blobaums create bounty and avoid debt by sticking to a budget and focusing on creating memorable experiences. Other guests on the program are Dr. Tahira K. Hira, an Iowa State University professor, and Adam Carroll, financial educator and author.

Also on this episode, Steve Persons, a tour guide at the Iowa State Capitol, gives viewers a tour of the more than 40 monuments and memorials on the grounds that showcase Iowa’s history.
