Manchester-born singer-songwriter Susan Werner performed for Living in Iowa in the summer of 2005. Werner, who now lives in Chicago, studied music at the University of Iowa, and then received her Masters' in classical voice from Temple University in Philadelphia. But she soon turned to songwriting and she's been touring and recording CDs ever since, accompanying herself on guitar and piano. Her latest CD, "I Can't Be New," features tunes in the songbook style. She's been compared to George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Billy Stayhorn for what she calls her "new songs done in an old way."
