    In this fifth episode on the restoration of an American Four Square home built around the turn of the century, hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartle go over the last steps of drywall installation. Contractors "pre-fill" the drywall, using a coat of special joint compound and tape to smooth over the gaps between sections and uneven surfaces. Johnson then sprays the wall with a primer in preparation for painting later. Finally, part of the kitchen cabinets are installed. [26 minutes]

    This episode of Hometime is the sixth in a series of ten episodes on the restoration of an American Four Square home, a popular style of design in the upper midwestern United States. Host Robin Hartle installs pre-finished wood flooring in the upstairs rooms. Having completed the flooring in the kitchen, she also helps the contractors to install the base cabinets. Contractors also pour concrete to form the floor of the basement; plastic is installed around the area so the humidity won't buckle the newly installed wood flooring in the other parts of the house. Host Dean Johnson installs trim around the newer windows and doors that closely matches the existing older trim. [26 minutes]

    In this continuation of the series on restoration of an American Four Square home, hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartl concentrate on some of the more decorative details of the woodwork, known as finish carpentry. Hartl also demonstrates how to install a sliding or a "pocket" door in the downstairs bathroom.     In this continuation of the series on the restoration of an American Four Square home, hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartle aid contractors in completing the finish carpentry throughout the interior of the house. Construction workers install custom cherrywood cabinets on either side of the fireplace in the living room. Outside, roofers deal with the damage caused to the shingles by melting snow, and in the process discover rotten timbers that will need to be replaced. The addition at the rear of the house, which includes the kitchen, family room and a basement office, is nearly complete. Hartle shows how the two bathrooms have been prepared for tile installation.     In this continuation of the series on the remodeling of an American four square style home, hosts Robin Hartl and Dean Johnson finish up the smaller details on the interior, as roofing contractors work on repairing rotten wood and replacing old shingles outside. Robin installs limestone tile on the floor of the main bathroom upstairs, and sets a more decorative glazed accent tile along the sink area, while Johnson puts in new door hardware. The kitchen countertops are finally completed, allowing Johnson and Hartl to work on more of the wood finish carpentry. They also reveal how they got the large household appliances through the narrow doorways of the house. [26 minutes]

    In this last episode of the series on the restoration of an American four square home, hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartl go over the finishing touches in a remodeling job that has added 600 square feet of finished space to the home, and updated most of the rooms in the house. The kitchen appliances and bathroom sinks have been installed, and the roofing is nearly done. Johnson and Hartl work on little odds and ends, like the remaining bathroom carpentry and door fixtures, in order to clear the way so that the painting, wallpapering, and hardwood floors can be completed.   • American Four-Square (#1112)

    Hosts Robin Hartl and Dean Johnson return to the site of their American four square restoration project in this episode of HOMETIME. Before remodeling, the home had seen few changes since it was first built in 1916. Johnson and Hartl show what progress has been made on the outside and the inside of the house up to this point, which includes the installation of an addition onto the back of the house in a style consitent with its original architecture. They also finish the last-minute interior details in each of the rooms before the arrival of the painters, and uncover old stucco from the exterior to reveal intricately patterned cedar siding.     Hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartl begin construction on one of the most popular do-it-yourself projects: a ground level deck. In this episode, they concentrate on the structural details, such as the footings and the framing.   • Habitat for Humanity: Kentucky (#1115)

    In this special episode of HOMETIME, hosts Dean Johnson and Robin Hartl participate in a homebuilding project for Habitat for Humanity. Established in 1976, the organization helps low-income people build, renovate and purchase housing. Since the program's inception, Habitat for Humanity and its volunteers have built approximately 500,000 homes and provided housing for over 300,000 people. This year's project takes place in eastern Kentucky at the 13th Annual Jimmy Carter Work Project. Johnson and Hartl also take a look back at the Habitat projects they've been involved in for the past ten years. [26 minutes]
